: "A Blooming Horizon" | Group Show

Having been a popular subject in art throughout history, flowers as a symbol hold a lasting appeal within the ever-evolving artistic zeitgeist. Most interesting about this visual staple is the fluidity of its presentation as blooms take a myriad of forms in the hands of the artist. With each interpretation and reinterpretation, the familiar form of flowers and other naturalistic motifs becomes wholly distinct and unique.

Inspired by the enduring intrigue for flowers and other flora within images, Galerie Joaquin Collective presents “A Blooming Horizon,” a mini-exhibition exploring visual elements derived from nature and their different interpretations. Viewers are invited into the floral worlds of visual artists Katrina Cuenca, Ycoy Sitchon, Haraya Tejido, Milmar Onal, and Amador Barquilla as they traverse their distinctive inner psyches and cultural environments through their art.

It becomes immediately apparent that one work is completely unlike the other. Where Katrina Cuenca’s florals are mysterious and tranquil, Ycoy Sitchon’s pastel blooms are romantic with a subtle, sophisticated character. Haraya Tejido’s candy colored petals exude joy through her exuberant, almost geometric style. Milmar Onal presents sprawling hilled landscapes imbued with a sense of serenity, while Amador Barquilla’s vibrant grassy meadows are bustling with life and community.

Together, the works within " A Blooming Horizon" compose an exhibition that celebrates not only the aesthetics of nature but also the personal narratives present in each stroke and hue. The familiar image of a flower is reimagined through each artist’s unique lens, opening dialogue about the relationship of the artist and subject by how painted worlds mirror distinct realities and worldviews.
