Visual artist Jerika See stems her artistic wits from normal glimpses in the everyday. She finds sparks of wonder in the, rather, mundane activities that occur in a person’s daily routine; playfully illustrating these scenes with a delightful charm that not only feels familiar but also evokes a sense of joy from within.

Introducing her blossoming foray into the arts, Jerika See mounts her first solo online exhibition, “To Eat or Not to Eat”, at the Galerie Joaquin Collective. The series plays with food by combining the delectable with the whimsical, reinventing acts such as cooking and dining by mischievously entwining them with concepts found in sports, music, beauty, and games.

With this, the kitchen becomes a stage, and the act of cooking & dining evolves into a performance that goes beyond mere sustenance. In essence, “To Eat or Not to Eat” finds its way to intertwine mundanity with amusement, wherein each dish emerges as a carefully crafted scene, with ingredients playing as characters in a narrative that blurs the lines between culinary routine and imaginative play.

Jerika See (b. 1996) is a visual artist hailing from Metro Manila, Philippines. A graduate of B.S. Architecture at the University of Santo Tomas, her passion for the arts goes as far back as her younger years, as she has been painting since high school. With a fervent passion that radiated through the years, she now pursues art as a full-time career.

Jerika describes herself as a “curious observer”, intending to look further and within the things we experience in normalcy. She tells stories in the language of eccentric patterns, objects, and characters, and once combined, displays an alluring environment enriched with notions of delight, amusement, and play.

“To Eat or Not to Eat” by Jerika See will be on view at Galerie Joaquin Collective on November 15, 2023, launching at 6 p.m. PST on the website. The online show will run until November 30, 2023.
