Patrick Esmao’s artistry and craftsmanship continue to push the limits. Well-known for his towering four-foot canvases comprised of acrylic and metallic thread, the artist brings forth illustrations anew for his latest show at Galerie Joaquin Online.

“This recent series of works done in watercolor on paper is part of my material exploration,” says Esmao. Composed of a few elements such as watercolor pigment and a singular shape, the artist depicts an abundance of abstractions that each tell their own story for the viewers to uncover. The works are also charged with rudiments of drafting and architecture, yet he challenges these rudiments by using watercolor – a medium that is usually known for illustrations that need no restriction. “Watercolor is known for artworks that are fluid and free-flowing, which I deliberately restrict in this body of work by confining the pigment inside geometric object,” the artist adds.

His latest oeuvre also crosses between parallels of movement and constraint. While the pigments are confined inside the four walls of an object, Esmao also tries to depict motion and natural force. “I also tried to create movement on an otherwise static image,” the artist mentions. This concept is seen in pieces such as “Divergent Proportions” and “Descending Angle”, conceptually captured as if the objects are falling due to natural force.

In essence, “New Perspectives” offers a new medium to divulge and explore, spirited by a tantamount of interpretations that its audience can offer. These contrasts, textures and depths of field are fundamentally supported by concepts of nature, abstraction and technological advancement.
