Embracing the essence of organic abstraction, Angeles’s artistic practice reflects her love of nature and its enigma. Working intuitively, the artist explores the idea of perception versus reality within the figurations, gestural line works, and organic forms found in her paintings. Isab Angeles' art is generated by her deeply felt connection to exactly those fundamental life forces -- birth, growth, and evolution. For her, nature connects humans to intrinsic truth; offering solace to one’s interior life. She believes nature exists beyond religion, politics, and physicality.

The organic qualities of “Existence and Essence” stem from Angeles’ love and respect for nature and its mysterious repetition of line and form. Working from visual memory, the figurations appear and disappear within the shapes and gestural movements. Each free-flowing exploration is only complete when the abstract touches the familiar; the point when something definite has been created, but its mystery is still intact. Isab Angeles aims her works to connect on an emotional level, for its viewer to relate to something fundamentally human.

About the Artist

Barbara Ruth Chanco Angeles (b. 1969) is a self-taught visual artist from the Philippines. After years of becoming an art consultant, Angeles decided to create and share her own artworks to an audience. The medium she initially used was pastel, creating lines using vibrant and metallic colors applied by a very fine paint brush.
