The Galerie Joaquin Shop in partnership with Scarletbox aim to bridge the generations through arts and culture by preserving these artworks through NFTs (Non-Fungible Tokens or digital proof of ownership). These works are the collaboration of National Artists Jose Joya and Abdulmari Imao, together with their second generation of artists Andre Baldovino and Toym Imao.
 

Each unique one-of-one artwork is in full animation showing the story and dynamism of each pair of artists' works which can be appreciated by the live 8"x 6" digital NFT frames and the free 12" x 16" framed archival print. For the first time, one will be able to have a rare opportunity to own a piece of history with the collaboration of these two generations.

For these paintings, Toym used the brilliant and varied colors that the elder Imao's Sarimanoks are known for. In addition to the curved graceful lines used by his father, Toym, in contrast, used angular lines and spherical shapes to finish the painting. This chosen piece by Toym Imao shows the beautiful combination of the bright colors of fire and water, displaying the colors and nature of the Southern Philippines.

Toym sees the leap into NFTs as a natural progression for an artist who took the risk of taking his work (which was initially dismissed as "folk") into the modern and the contemporary. Toym takes the step of sharing these artworks into a new platform as he combines the two generations in one work. Like the Phoenix, the Sarimanok rises with gusto in the digital world for the world to see.

These pieces were inspired by how the relationship between the past and the present is parallel to the interactions of land and water. The past is immovable and unchangeable, like forms of land that are solid and enduring. On the other hand, water is transparent and shape shifting, like how the present is ever changing and slipping from our grasp. 

The Joya paintings are mountains that have stood the test of time. The structures of the Joya work become the foundations where transparent layers from the Baldovino’s painting are placed on. Baldovino then used a subtractive method of painting where he erased away his work in order to create a fusion between the two paintings. A digital layer and animation was then added into the composition in order to bind the multiple layers of the two paintings together.  

The Joya pieces chosen for Galerie Joaquin Online fuse the works of the 2 generations in an amalgamation of colors. The animation of this piece is reminiscent of how light folds when they hit water. Truly one of a kind with 2 generations in one work.
