About the Book
Sanso: Textile Designs 1950’s to 1960’s is the combined selections from the large extant textile design collection of Fundacion Sanso and from the Galerie Joaquin collection. Unlike many commercial textile designs, Sanso's works are painterly and not easy to tile; although his repetitive patterns insinuate the outcome of the fabric. The designs are grouped with the general themes of nature (floral and foliage), geometric patterns, and abstract expressionist designs.
Sanso: Textile Designs contains essays by eminent Philippine textile scholar Sandra Castro, esteemed educator Olivia Lopez, and Gino Gonzales, all of whom authored numerous publications on textile and fashion, which contextualize Sanso’s designs historically and artistically within the global zeitgeist of the time, and in the context of Philippine art. This book will surely be a great reference for supporters, collectors, and admirers of Sanso as they will see his textile design is not a footnote, but rather, an important body of work within his oeuvre, as well as provide a great context in the development of fashion within the 1950’s and the 1960’s.
